Browsers
The aim is to make make our site available to as many interested parties as possible:
  • through web browsers & devices
  • to users of all levels of IT ability
  • to users with various diabilities

Unfortunately we do not currently have the resources to meet all these goals. This website adheres as closely as possible to the Web Accessibility Guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium W3C group, and the UK Government's guidelines in the Disability Discrimination Act (1995).

We target the most recent versions of the following PC and Laptop web browsers (download for free by clicking).
We do our best to support the following mobile device browsers:

Enlarging text:
If you find it easier to view information in a larger font than the standard font on these pages, you can adjust your browser to provide a larger text size.
  • Apple Mac - holding the 'Apple' key, then pressing + or - to alter the font size.
  • Internet Explorer users can use the 'View' menu, highlighting the 'Text Size', then selecting the appropriate option.
The BBC website provides useful information on how to enlarge text in specific internet browsers. View the BBC My Web My Way guidelines.

  • Javascript:
  • This site makes use of a number of javascript features. Without a javascript plug-in these feautres will not all be available to you. Javascript plug-ins are freely available via the hyperlink.

Layout
This site uses a combination of div tables and cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, you may encounter some difficulties in viewing the site. However the content of each page is still readable.

RSS
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts in a standardized format. The RSS document (feed) contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays. Many web browsers automaticall open RSS documents and manage RSS subscriptions (monitor feed specified by the user).

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS feed reader", may be web-based (as mentioned above) or desktop-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats. RSS format versions:
  • Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
  • RDF Site Summary (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90)
  • Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91).
