  • Healthy Sustainable Eating
  • The following three dietary philosophies are all well documented by respected authorities and lead to equally impressive results. They lead to very similar meals (bar the lack of animal protein on the raw food diet!). Perhaps the most sensible approach is a combination of these philosophies, summarized as:
    • Ideally cut out all industrially processed foods.
    • Fresh organic produce (vegetables and nuts, with fruits in appropriate volumes).
    • Fresh organic animal protein - meat, fish, dairy (unpasteurised and unhomogenised) & eggs .
    • Limiting or totally excluding grains.
    • Where the food source is indigestible, or toxic in it's natural state , you have two main options - fermenting or heating. Where fermenting is not possible (generally due to time or taste preferences), heating becomes the next option. Heat using saturated (low or high temperatures), or mono saturated (low temperatures) fats.
    • Meat and fish may be heat sealed and lightly cooked to limit any danger of bacteria, viral or pathogenic transfer.

  • The biggest factors in favour of these similar nutritional philosophies are:

  • Time - they have the benefit of time span behind their claims.
  • Scientific findings are often only relevant to that level of understanding at that point in history. Man, along with all the other species still in existence today has evolved over millions of years. It therefore makes sense to look at evidence depicting a long term track record. Yes, newer findings my potentially reveal useful information. But time span is the real acid test. Even a few millennia of dietary change therefore can provide little comfort in terms of optimal nutrition or lifestyle management.
  • Organic Produce - there is a strong correlation between the industrialization of food and the rise of autoimmune diseases.
  • Dispel the Lipid Hypothesis - saturated fat was never the enemy ... it's grains and sugars.

  • There is a reason that many of the dieting regimes being sold are still around ... some people will thrive on them (or at least temporarily appear to thrive). Why they work for some is best explained through an appreciation of metabolic typing.

    Just as ethnic groups around the world visibly adapted over thousands of years to new climatic conditions, at a cellular level we too adapted to a certain available fuel mix. A reshuffle of the gene pool due to modern transportation, and our reliance on supermarkets food stuffs, have made dietary selection a rather tricky matter. This is the reason for the science of metabolic typing.
