INJURIES - Herniated / Prolapsed / Slipped Disc
  • Vertebral Discs
  • Herniated disc, also known as prolapsed disk or slipped disc, is common in the age range 30-50 years. Acute herniated disc often leads to nerve trapping and sciatica (shooting pain in leg).
  • Lower back injuries are the number one cause of work absenteesim in the Western World
  • The damage is done through years of faulty biomechanics and the sedentary lifestyle associated with desk-jobs. We rarely think about how we use are spines untill we're crippled with pain. There is usually a build up of missed warning signs .... presumed muscle pain from training hard
  • Discal damage should not be interpreted as ageing, genetic weakness, or irreparable damage. Discs can fully heal, it's the continued lifestyle pattern that causes repeat worsening episodes.
  • Medical doctors are likely to ply you with pain killers, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants and rely on the bodies natural healing mechanisms. Core muscle strengthening exercises to protect the disc and surgery (ususally in the form of a dissectomy) are offered in chronic cases.
  • Good biomechanical squatting squatting is not enemy best medicine.
